Text Box: From the Chair…
Fellow Democrats:
The Republicans have shown their true colors over the last several months.
First the Virginia Assembly eavesdropping incident; it will be interesting to see whether the Ashcroft Justice Department follows up on this violation of the law or sweeps it under the rug.
And then the Vance Wilkins sexual harassment scandal. Amazing that in the year 2002 a number of Republicans blamed the victim or said that boys will be boys, no big deal.
Meanwhile the same crowd wants to turn the public schools into extensions of vacation Bible school, and churches into fund raising bodies for the far right. I hope you caught Margaret Honn's excellent letter to the editor of the Gazette on JoAnn Davis' bill to advance the perversion of the Constitution by gutting the separation of church and state. In my view the Republicans with pretensions to a monopoly on values are hypocrites.
I hope that you can attend our regular meetings the fourth Thursday of every month — this July excepted — and our picnic on Saturday, September 21. Please call Willie Brown at 565-0463 if you will be able to help. Also, we need volunteers to set up and man our booth at the James City County fair on August 10. Please call Coralie Hartung at 565-4060 if you would like to volunteer.
Give me an e-mail at breslers@aol.com or a call at 564-8702 if you have questions or comments.
Best regards,
Ralph Bresler
